I understand your thoughts about the market as you have described it here, and I agree, the ISV market (in the long term) is the wrong place for PaaS, at least under the conditions that you describe. I think that Evan and Zach or Mark and his team are ill advised to try and define that market, they are just creating a powder keg in which their customers will eventually reach a point of back lash.

On the other hand, there is a small but growing group that feels that there is a viable and sustainable market for PaaS. At my new venture, we believe that PaaS brings tremendous advantages to the enterprise, and as such have developed a comprehensive plan to address the needs of this market. Feel free to contact me and I will be happy to share my thoughts with you.
