Brian Foster Joins Damballa as CTO Apr 2013

Former Head of Products for McAfee to Lead Products and Research

Atlanta – April 10, 2013 - Damballa, the experts in advanced threat protection, today announced that security industry veteran Brian Foster has joined the company as Chief Technology Officer. Foster brings over 25 years of security product management and development experience to his new role, where he will oversee product strategy, development and research. Most recently, Foster was senior vice president of product management for consumer security at McAfee Inc. Prior to this role, he was responsible for worldwide product management across all of McAfee’s product lines including consumer and enterprise.

Foster comes to Damballa with a successful track record in product expansion and technical strategy. Under his leadership, McAfee’s product line grew to include more than 80 products. Foster played an integral role in the creation of McAfee’s differentiated technical strategy around Security Connected and Deep Security.

“New threats are emerging faster than prevention-based approaches can catch them, and the time to remediation continues to lengthen,” said Foster. “Today’s most nefarious threats are written to bypass even the latest generation of prevention defenses and then persist on the network over time, steal corporate data or intellectual property, and/or cause outages and downtime. In addition, as the variety of device types and operating systems allowed in the enterprise continues to grow, this problem is only amplified.

“The most effective security posture for organizations today includes a layered approach with an increased focus on solid detection to greatly improve response and remediation,” Foster continued. “Damballa is leading the industry with a unique approach for detecting those advanced and persistent threats that evade prevention systems and with an incredibly smart team that continues to further this technology lead every day. I look forward to capitalizing on the market adoption of our technology to date, continuing to expand our platform, and accelerating our growth.”

“Brian’s experience at McAfee and Symantec has provided him keen insight into the rapidly evolving threat ecosystem and the technology that organizations need to rapidly detect and respond to their most critical threats,” said David Scholtz, CEO of Damballa. “The challenges the security industry is facing around advanced threats have created a huge opportunity for Damballa, and we are thrilled to
have Brian join us as we continue to assemble and expand a world-class team to lead us into our next phase of growth.”

Before joining McAfee, Foster spent over 20 years at Symantec in a variety of roles on several product lines. Foster earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and has attended the Executive Program in Management at the University of California, Los Angeles.
